Stand up if you hate Man U

Today we're back with our regular four options again...

In this picture, Sir Alex Ferguson is:

a) Showing Wayne Rooney how many brain cells Wayne's got...
b) Showing Wayne Rooney how long Wayne's penis is...
c) Trying to hypnotize Wayne Rooney into becoming an intelligent football player...
d) All of the above...

Quick update

Quick update from the south of France:

* The fuckin Spanish won the world cup. Argh.

* It's hot here. Like, really hot. Plus a dash of humidity. Tuscany was better, climatewise. I understand the concept of the siesta better now (we had one this afternoon).

* French "men" have no problem kissing each other and most of them are walking around with purses. This is a nation of closet gays, I tell you.

* The restaurant where we watched the world cup tonight reportedly has a hole in the ground for a toilet. So this is also a nation of uncivilized animals.

The death of a sport

I've been trying to follow the 2010 World Cup. With enthusiasm. But the more I watch, the more I realize I no longer have much feeling for this game. Maybe I'll watch the finale, maybe not.

I'm not sure why I've had this development, probably there are several reasons. Team football has become nearly impossible to follow over the years, as players change teams more often than underwear. This means that almost all the players on today's national teams are unknown to yours truly.

In addition, this year's cup has been, for the most part, horribly boring. Few goals scored, lots of loooong sequences of teams playing defense almost all the time, and a ball which seems designed never to hit the goal if fired from more than 16 meters. Bah.

So. Football has suffered a long decline, and to me the sport is now officially dead. Watching most games these days are on a par with watching paint dry, and I just don't have the patience to sit around and wait for the few good games. Instead I'll watch a movie, read a book, go out for dinner or whatever.

Glory glory!

Today was payday, and the June check is always the biggest of the year. I had budgeted conservatively, and lo and behold I got 33% more than I'd thought/feared. Looks like I won't have to eat grass in France after all.

Also, I had a quick and easy time being external examinator today, the FIFA World Cup tournament in South Africa starts in slightly more than a half hour, tonight is the annual faculty garden party AND I weighed in at 114,4 kg this morning. Life is goooooooooooooood.

Fuck the French

The fuckin' French have made it to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, knocking out Ireland. The final goal came in the overtime period and was the direct result of a HANDS by French forward Thierry Henry. The French, being by nature cowardly, thieving, lying motherfuckers didn't own up and thus won by cheating.

FUCKERS! FUCKERS! FUCKERS!

Wheeeeeeeeee

My hometown team has just won admission to the premier league of Norway's soccer system! They played 0-0 in the final game, but that was enough to become number 2 in the 2nd division and winning the promotion. Wheeeeeeeeeeee!

I love my satellite dish

As some of you will remember, I waxed lyrical about Slovenian TV back in May, when I watched my beloved Liverpool FC beat Milan for the European Championship on one of their free channels. Today, I watched the Norwegian national team commit highway robbery by beating Slovenia 3-2 away, and since the match ran on a Norwegian paychannel I don't have, I watched it on a free Slovenian channel.

I first tried to watch it without Slovenian comments while listening to Norwegian radio, but soon found that the tv picture was about 5 seconds delayed. This made the eerie impression of listening to slightly psychic commentators, so I soon turned it off. Besides, it adds a bit of spice to hear foreign commentators shout and wail in their largely incomprehensible tongue, and hearing them pronunciate Norwegian names is especially fun.

The match itself was a real nailbiter. Norway led 2-1 and had played quite well at half time, but then we commited the usual error of trying to play it safe and just control our way through the 2nd half. What followed was a continous barrage against our goal and just a few minutes before full time the Slovenians managed to make 2-2. On overtime we got lucky and scored, which was pure highway robbery, but then again life ain't always fair, especially in sports...

VICTORY!!!

Today, my favorite football team Liverpool FC was playing AC Milan for the European Champions League title - basically the continent's greatest title for club teams, a pan-European Super Bowl so to speak...

I didn't have the only Norwegian TV channel to show the game, so I followed it by real-time text comments online. By half time Milan was kicking British ass left and right and held a 3-0 lead, so I kind of zoned out, thinking it was a done deal... BUT... then... Liverpool managed to rally for a miraculous seven minutes to come back and make three goals... something I find out only after I thought the game was over and my team beaten. So I leave the net and start flipping channels like a madman.

You see, I have a satellite dish that takes in hundreds of channels from all over the world. I have Kurdish folk music, I have Arab-language phone sex commercials, I have Chinese communist propaganda and tons more. So I figured somewhere in all this madness, there HAD to be someone showing the game. And finally, on #686, I find it - on a Slovenian channel! I managed to see the last ten minutes of the extra time (no goals) AND the penalty contest that followed... where LIVERPOOL WON!!!

*chants*

COME ON YOU REDS! COME ON YOU REDS!

I'm ecstatic... nay euphoric! It's been so long since Liverpool won anything much and now they've gone and taken the European title... *sniffles*

Now if only they would get their act together and win the English championship next year - that's the one that really matters to us true fans... *nods*
