The Museum of Acropolis lies at the southeastern slope and was opened in 2009. It houses all the artifacts that were formerly on display at the museum at the top of Acropolis and then some. It lies directly on top of an area that was once one of the richest in Athens, and there's lots of digging going on with stuff being found from prehistoric to Byzantine times. It's separate from the Acropolis itself, and costs a mere five Euros, a pittance for such a great museum. Sadly, they have a partial non-photo policy in place, so I don't have as much photographic loot as I would otherwise have.
From the outside. A modern, airy and spacious building.
There is glass in parts of the ground floor, so you can look down into the diggings that are ongoing.
Part of a frieze from the original Parthenon decorations.
