Before entering Acropolis proper, I walked around the whole effin hill. There were more holy caves, temples and ruins on the way than a sane man can count, much less describe on a blog, but the views over Athens were great and there was some very nice scenery.
Ruins.
More ruins. This was the Theatre of Dionysus, which was built in its present form in the earliest half of the 4th century BC.
The walls as seen from the slopes.
Big ass cave.
Open air temple. There were several of these along the slopes.
The Odeon of Herodes Atticus, here seen from above.
As seen from ground level.
Through one of the ancient doors.
