Return to Wigtown

Today I've been ambling about the Scottish countryside, stopping now and then as fancy took me. No great castles today, folks! Apparently there was a book festival, and quite a well known one at that, in Wigtown today. Still, there didn't seem to be all that many people in town and no crowds were mobbing any of the secondhand book shops I visited. They had some newer books for sale in a large tent, presumably connected to the festival, but I was the only customer there. Stwange.

As mentioned in 2008, Wigtown is a "designated" hub for secondhand books in Scotland, and it has tons of goodies for booklovers of all shapes and ages. I managed to get away with only a paperpack of five Arthur Conan Doyle science fiction stories, so I was lucky this time. As it was pissing down, I even left the place way sooner than I had intended to.

They still haven't changed the most unfortunate combination of place names in the history of the universe.

I'm wondering if things aren't going so well for Wigtown nowadays. Some shops seemed closed and the place had a dusty, gritty, worn down feel to it. Might have been just the weather, of course.

Indeed, indeed.

Some random, immature fun

Just had to share these two. How funny it is, rests entirely upon your own deviant imagination. Personally I laugheded.

Passive aggressive note

Going through the pictures from the recent trip to the US, I sometimes find little gems that didn't quite fit in any of the posts I wrote but which I still want to share with y'all (both of ya). This is a very beautiful example of the passive agressive note, which is a whole art unto itself. What this one says, in plain English, is: We've got your credit card info, so don't even THINK about stealing our stuff.

Mr Squirrel

By the parking lot of the Hayes museum, there is a tree stump of some historic significance. Back in the day it was where a white woman (I forget her name) was tied up all nekkid, and the injuns were ready to burn her the next day. Fortunately she was saved by some white trapper guy.

Today this stump is almost hollow, and the local squirrels, of which there are MANY, sit and stuff face here all day long, seemingly oblivious to the people driving or walking right by them. I dunno if this is a missus or a guy, but I've chosen to call it Mr Squirrel. Feast your eyes on this lovable rouge. All pics here.

I have no idea...

... what the person responsible for this is trying to say, but the situation was so insane I had to take a pic of it. A goat, lying on a surfboard, atop an old car. Yeah, that's not sumfin' you see everyday. The picture was taken somewhere between Lakes Entrance and Glenrowan.

Curled up

This is how I feel at times, too... curling up in fetal position, and dreaming about going to a better place...

Plant

This sign greeted me up at Scenic world in Katoomba. It is somewhat confusing, I must admit. What do they actually mean by "road plant ahead"? Is it a factory that makes roads? Or a plant that grows roads, in which case I've been sorely mistaken on the subject of how roads are made... Do they mean to tell me there's a road ahead that is not the road it looks like; that it was put there as a "plant"? Or is there a plant growing in the road?

These are the things that keep me awake at night.

Artful penguins

I've said it before... on the one hand I'm not a fan of modern art, but on the other hand I very much feel you can't go wrong with penguins.

Nor, come to think of it, with kangaroos.

Ginger alert!

So it's official. Gingers are MADE, not born. No wonder they are soulless. I'd pity them if it wasn't for the fact that they're evil, little things through and through.

Traffic information or philosophy?

I leave it to you, dear reader to decide. Is this New Mexico sign an attempt at traffic information, or is it philosophy 101?

Weiner II

Since Congressman Weiner's nekkid chest has ben splattered all over the internets, I think it's only fair that I come clean with full disclosure too!

This picture looks like:

1) Some hairy animal died a horrible death on someone's puny chest...
2) The latest in fur fashon from the Alabama Company of Assorted Dead Critters...
3) The chest of this blog's author...
4) All of the above...

Captions - The Donald Edition

Here we have his supremeness The Donald, together with another supremo - douchbag de luxe Bill O'Reilly. I don't know which one hurts the Right the most, but they both "need killin'" as they say in the south.
