Hadrian's Library

Sunday was also a busy day, though not quite as long as Saturday. I managed to do the stuff I had planned and take the pics that needed taking and then some.

I started off with Hadrian's Library, a huge building created in the fashion of the Roman Forums, which later housed no less than three churches inside it. I especially liked that they destroyed and burned the last one in order to start digging for ancient ruins.

The western wall, where the ancient enctrance was.

The white stone is a later repair I think, while the colored stone is original.

More columns.

The columns in the middle are from some church.

The eastern area was where the actual library was. It may have contained up to almost 17,000 rolls of papyrus.

There were smaller reading rooms and two auditoriums for teaching.

The residing lecturer is a very affectionate feline who will walk with you around the whole area, purring loudly all the way.
