Hubbard Museum

I happened to drive by the Hubbard Museum of the American West today, on my way to Roswell. I decided to check it out, and since it was affiliated with the Smithsonian I went in.

Bad call. It contains almost nothing of any interest. There is a tiny area on the first floor with some pictures and sculptures. You then walk downstairs, where there is a large, open space with lots of wagons. In a corner there are some firearms and along one wall is the collection of some local woman; from what I could gather it was largely to do with horses. There was a temporary art exhibit in one corner. And that was it.

The Hubbard museum is a disgrace to the name of the Smithsonian and is a joke compared to, say, the Buffalo Bill museum in Cody, WY. If you're ever in the area, save your money and drive on.

All pics here.

Impressive front.

Nice garden.

Some stuff that just MIGHT have belonged to Billy the Kid. This was by far the most interesting display in the whole building.
