Friday I drove down to Canberra, and managed to get in a visit to the National Capital Exhibition, which gives a good overview of the history of the city.
Much like with the US, the rivalry between the country's main cities led to the decision of building a shiny new Capital and after much searching the choice fell on the tiny hamlet of Canberra (the word "camberra", means "meeting place" in the local aboriginal language). I took some pics inside and outside the building, and first impressions of the place was that it was quite pleasant.
Cool model of the city.
The place where the jet stream shoots up into the air... it's part of the Cook memorial.
The actual Cook memorial.
Swan on the lawn.
Nice views. Canberra is a city with lots of parks, and the area around the Lake Burley Griffin is great for walks, if you're into that kind of thing. Which I'm not.
