Lake Powell is a man made lake on the Columbia River, straddling Arizona and Utah. I came upon it where Utah Route 95 comes down from the northwest, at a place which used to be known as Hite. Hite was a gold mining town, but was abandoned in the 1950s and then flooded in 1963 as Lake Powell was made for water & electricity. Powell is second in size only to Lake Mead on the Nevada/Arizona border.
Today, it is also a popular recration area, just like Mead. Hite Marina is right opposite and there were a couple of boats on the lake. Blue skies, calm waters and majestic views all round. Oh, yeah.
All pics here.
A few miles south, this will become the Grand Canyon.
A small side creek to Lake Powell.
