Lava Beds National Monument

Before reaching Klamath Falls, we made a quick detour to Lava Beds National Monument. The name is kind of a misnomer, since the really interesting thing that most visitors come to see are the caves in the area, not the lava beds. We didn't have the time, nor the physical stamina to do much spelunking, but we managed to do two caves.

I am skeptical of Skull Cave.

Here, we said goodbye to daylight, warmth and quite probably our sanity.

The very end of the paved (and accessible) part of the cave. Not much to look at, but it was quite cold down there. Also, at this point Albie had freaked out and gone back to the daylight.

There were some very pretty stones in the walls and ceiling of the cave.

From the walls and ceiling of the first cave, Mushpot. This one had lights and stuff and was for sissies.

The area around the visitor center is quite pretty.

Just before the Oregon border we saw this cute little bambi.
