Started this crisp, cold autumn morning with a little stroll around the little village of Glencoe, where the (in)famous massacre took place in 1692. No less than 38 Scots of the MacDonald clan were killed by troops consisting of mainly English officers and native Scottish troops (chifly of clan Campbell, who were always the Sassenach's best friends). This was a horrible blow to the whole clan system and to the notion of Highland hospitality.
I took some pics at the memorial for the murdered and the surrounding area; the leaves seem to be changing color by the day now.
All pics here.
The memorial cross.
Memorial plaque.
The trees are slowly turning into feasts of color.
The stream coming down from the mountains.
The little village of Glencoe today. So peaceful, it's hard to imagine it the site for the horrible happenings of 1692.
The war memorial. As I've said before, these can be seen just about everywhere all over Great Britain.
This building houses the local museum.
